Our mission is to provide high-quality, free civil legal advice, representation, and education to the disadvantaged of Broward County. has more than 125 employees, including more than 50 attorneys, who provide free services and resources across a broad range of civil legal issues that impact health, safety, and self-sufficiency. Through education, effective litigation, and collaboration, we work tirelessly to expand access to justice for all, identify needs in our community, and challenge systems, laws, and policies that adversely affect the underserved and marginalized.
Position Summary
The HOMELESS LEGAL RIGHTS PROJECT advocates on behalf of individuals who are homeless. Currently, the unit has an opening for a full-time Staff Attorney. The Staff Attorney is responsible for providing high-quality legal services to the homeless.
The position requires representation in many areas of law, including civil and administrative legal matters, such as immigration, family law, driver license reinstatement, Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), and other public benefit and civil matters. Knowledge of simple family law matters, including simple divorce, child support modification, and name changes, is highly recommended. Experience in handling I-90s, N-400s, I-130 with or without I-485s, I-821, and I-765, and FOIA requests is highly recommended. Knowledge of Social Security disability proceedings is highly recommended.
