Department of Computer Science & Engineering in Data Science
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (Data Science) is running undergraduate course B. Tech. Curriculum of courses is same as given by RGPV Bhopal. Apart from this curriculum, the department provides an exponentially growing field which consists of a set of tools and techniques used to extract useful information from data. The programme comprises data Science as an interdisciplinary, problem-solving oriented subject that learns to apply scientific techniques to practical problems and is designed in close collaboration with industry which includes in-demand tools and technologies
The course involves a blend of data inference, algorithm development and technology to analytically solve complex problems. The programme imparts a confluence of skills in three major areas of mathematical expertise, technology hacking skills and business strategies. This programme is designed to provide a student with core concepts of computer science as well as data science. It also provides engineering and problem-solving skills using computational methods.
The students will have an opportunity to learn principles, tools and techniques to model various real world problems, analyse them, and discover useful information. Further, they are encouraged to suggest solutions that support decision-making using suitable data visualization techniques. The prime focus of this programme is to equip students with programming skills, statistical skills and mathematical reasoning.
In the era of digitization, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) offers a huge potential to automate business routines, enable businesses in making smart decisions, understand the market better, and align market resources in an effective way. Before realizing the benefits of Data Science, organizations have to embark on a long journey of identifying relevant use cases (where AI and ML can be helpful), designing the appropriate analytical solutions, implementing the prescribed solutions at organization level, and imbibing the solution’s output for strategic/operational activities in the organization. Each of the aforementioned tasks require a variety of skills spanning from technical skills and domain knowledge to creative thinking.
Opportunities in India and Abroad
- Data Scientist is the best job of the 21st century.
- Global Big Data market to reach $122B in revenue by 2025.
- The US alone could face a shortage of 1.4 -1.9 million Big Data Analysts by 2018.
- There is a serious shortage of Data Scientists and this is a major concern for Top MNCs around the world. All this means the major corporations are ready to pay top dollar salaries for professionals with the right Data Science skills.
